ALDAR INVITES VISITORS TO CREATE MOSAIC OF SHEIKH ZAYED THIS RAMADAN

Museum of Islamic artefacts also launched at Yas Mall and The Mall at WTCAD

Aldar Properties (‘Aldar’) invites visitors to celebrate Ramadan this year by contributing to a six-meter-long mosaic mural of Sheikh Zayed, the founding father of the UAE, at Yas Mall and at The Mall at World Trade Centre Abu Dhabi (The Mall at WTCAD). An awe-inspiring collection of 80 Islamic artifacts will also be on display at a pop-up museum at Yas Mall and The Mall at WTCAD during the holy month, providing a cultural experience for the whole family to enjoy.

In memory of the founder of the UAE and to celebrate Ramadan, visitors to Aldar’s retail destinations can purchase individual glass mosaic tiles for AED 5, which build over time to depict two portraits of Sheikh Zayed throughout his years. As part of this corporate social responsibility campaign, all proceeds will go to Make-A-Wish Foundation UAE, which grants the wishes to enrich the lives of terminally ill children.

After the mosaics have been completed, award-wining Emirati artist Fatima Al Hammadi will weave together the mosaics to form a spectacular mural of Sheikh Zayed, which will be revealed at the grand opening of Al Jimi Mall’s new extension and Retail Park in Al Ain this October.

As part of this inclusive initiative, Fatima Al Hammadi, has also created 10 mosaics inspired by the children who are supported by the Make-A-Wish Foundation UAE. These mosaics will be displayed at Yas Mall throughout the month, and available to purchase by silent auction.

In addition, incredible exhibitions of Islamic artifacts will be displayed at pop-up museums at both Yas Mall and The Mall at WTCAD. The Museum will exhibit over 80 priceless individual pieces including Chinese and Ottoman Qurans and ancient Islamic swords that date back thousands of years. Every evening after Iftar, representatives of The Museum will give talks to the visitors about the history of the artifacts, while entry is free. The Museum will be at Yas Mall from 17 - 26 May and at The Mall at WTCAD from 28 May – 6 June.

Curated especially by popular designer & media Influencer Searina Abdel Kader, Yas Mall will also host its first Ramadan Fair, THE STATION, at Town Square from 17 – 26 May and from 6- 11 June. THE STATION will showcase the chicest selection of local & regional designers, perfect timing for Ramadan & Eid shopping.

Saoud Khoory, General Manager of Yas Mall, commented, ‘This year we wanted to create a mall-wide initiative that paid homage to Sheikh Zayed while also putting our visitors at the heart of the activity. Incorporating the spirit of Ramadan, the mosaics provide an opportunity for mall visitors to participate in an inspiring work of art and contribute to a great cause – with the proceeds going to support children from the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The initiatives also support Aldar’s strategy to offer a unique and memorable shopping and leisure experience at its retail assets. We encourage everyone to take part.’
